When optimism turns to embarrassment!!!

This was the cry, (well, my Tweet) for help I posted yesterday……..

IMG_3241

No – nobody responded and I felt very alone and scared.

Well, actually, I was laughing….lots.

But with that edge of panic to it also!

It would be embarrassing enough to be stuck in a correctly sized jumper or top, where the button has got caught around your hair or where the zippers got stuck, but oh no, I had to go one better…..

And if I had had to ask the (male) shop assistant for help, seeing as he was the only one working on the changing rooms at the time; he would not only have laughed at me because I looked like mutton dressed as lamb, aged 37 in a very low-cut playsuit (like a trouser suit but shorts); but also, that I had somehow managed to squeeze myself into a size 8!

(You know – there is a reason why there are very few photos of me on this blog!!)

All good’ I hear you say – although I couldn’t get back out of it.

It just wouldn’t go over my shoulders!

As much as i pulled and tugged the bloody thing just wouldn’t shift!

I’d manage to pull down one shoulder, only to find the material was a little less forgiving than, shall we say jersey, so only through sheer force did I manage to manoeuvre my other shoulder out from the suit, than the other shoulder merrily popped back in again!

Mortified!

Getting hotter and sweatier

Starting to panic!

Though, all’s well that ends well, and I thought sod it – I’d literally have to force the thing down and if I ripped it, then so be it!

I was free!!

I almost had to sit on the floor to catch my breath..

…and my nerves!!

Ok – so perhaps I was being a little on the optimistic size, which probably should have meant trying to squeeze into a size 12, or at a push, maybe even a size 10, but no Steph, definitely not a size 8!!!

This was the culprit:

All for a love of fashion I

1. can’t afford

and

2. can no longer fit into!

Pretty and all, but who am I kidding!!

I’ll get one fr the girls instead!

And in the meantime, I’ll stick in the maternity clothes

(only 16 months after giving birth!!!)

xx

Reading this is a scene I have recently experienced, only mine was a bridal dress. I was shopping with my friend, she made me try on a dress which is a size 10 (I’m a size 12). I managed to get it on but could not get it off. I had to call my friend and she had to literally pull It off of me. Thankfully the shop assistant didn’t see us!

    • 11th August 2014 / 4:19 pm

Ah – so you used the ‘phone a friend’ method! Nice! That could have cost you a fair bit if they’d had to cut you out of that one! Bet it looked lovely while it was on though!! xx

Ha Ha! What a funny story. I avoid playsuits after a terribly embarrassing incident in my youth when I was at a Mayors Ball wearing an all in one culottes affair and had one glass of wine too many and found myself having to go to the loo. The zipper got caught and I was banging about in the cubicle, getting increasingly desperate for a wee and a poor lady came to my rescue before I disgraced myself completely. She turned out to be the Mayors wife…

OH MY GOSH!!!! That is REALLY bad! Poor you! Its funny how so many of us seem to have got ourselves in these scrapes!!! xx

Well, it’s a lovely playsuit to get stuck in! We’ve been there! Thanks for linking up to the #binkylinky

    Hahahahaha!
Sorry! I know it’s a bit mean to laugh, but that’s quite an image!
I wish is been online when you tweeted that. Not that I would have been much help I’m afraid.
I have to admit I’ve had a similar experience though. I once squeezed into a top several sizes to small because it had been put back on the wrong hanger. I really did have to ask for help to get out if it, but at least it was a female attendant 🙂

I will let you off laughing as I did have to chuckle myself!! I’m so pleased and feel lots less stupid that so many of out there seem to have done the same thing! Photos next time though please – wink wink!! xxxx

    • 8th August 2014 / 3:40 pm

Please tell mummy that she is very naughty to be laughing at someone else’s misfortune!! But that she will be let off this time (beca
use I was actually laughing too and probably would it I had a read a post similar to this one) 😉 xxx

Ha ha! I could have come and rescued you if I had seen your tweet! 🙂 I hate that moment when you think you *might* be stuck and you just start prickling! Glad you escaped xx

  6. 8th August 2014 / 7:41 am

Sorry I laughed at this! I can just remember myself being in similar situations in the past! At the time was horrible but good to look back and laugh about! #binkylinky

  7. 8th August 2014 / 6:21 am

This is very well written and comical yet horrifying! Jumpsuits et al are over rated anyway… Comfy maternity leggings much more chic 🙂 #binkylinky

    • 8th August 2014 / 3:38 pm

Thankyou. And yes – point taken – will steer well clear in future! Promise! xx

  8. 7th August 2014 / 7:55 pm

Hilarious! Omg you got home ok! Phew! I too have been here, I’ve ripped it a little bit too then done a runner. Don’t judge me 😉 x

  9. 7th August 2014 / 6:18 pm

I LOVE this. I almost wet myself laughing (must do my pelvic floor exercises… ssssqqqquuueeezzzeee)! I like to wear sacks with belts to prevent this problem. I adore that playsuir though! Ssssqqqquuueeezzzeee!

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:47 pm

      Hey Mrs H!! 🙂
I’m so pleased I could provide you with a Tena-Lady moment!! Yes – more pelvic floor exercises most definitely what’s required here! I’m like that though – all the time – I literally have to sit down wherever I am (on a chair, in the middle of the pavement etc) otherwise I totally will have an accident! But hey – at least I could blog about it in the next #wickedwednesdays!!! And Ssssqqqquuueeezzzeee! xxxxxx

  10. 7th August 2014 / 12:35 pm

Oh my god! I have been here SO MANY TIMES! You get that sweaty top lip don’t you. And the panic and the heat and then you start to worry you are going to die stuck in a too small flowery dress. Love this – something a bit different from the norm. Fab bab. Thanks so much for linking up to #wickedwednesdays. I can’t wait to see what you’ve got ready for next week! xxx

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:43 pm

Glad to be different and pleased I gave you a big old laugh!! 🙂 (and everyone else it seems – a very supportive lot out there) I found all these #wickedwednesdays posts absolutely fabulous – I think it is such an excellent linky!! I’m bound to be boring next week now though! Lots to live up to now! xx

  11. 6th August 2014 / 9:22 pm

Omg I am so sorry but this made me LOL. Totally something I would have done 🙂 x #wickedwednesday

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:38 pm

Thanks! I did chuckle too – after the event though – and my family were very supportive too and found it hilarious! You’re turn next:) xxx

      • 7th August 2014 / 8:32 pm

Haha my family would have been exactly the same! X

  12. 6th August 2014 / 8:43 pm

ha ha – sorry I couldn’t help but laugh as I could imagine myself doing this 🙂

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:37 pm

It is certainly sounding as though we’ve actually all been there at one point – so if you think this is the sort of thing you’d do – we can’t wait to read about it!! Teehee!! xx

This must have been dreadful, but it did make me laugh. And yes, I’ve been there too! xx

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:33 pm

We are silly aren’t we. But hey, its the first time, lets just hope it was the last time….for us both then!! xx

  14. 6th August 2014 / 7:34 pm

This is precisely the reason why I don’t go into changing rooms – I have enough trouble at home with my own clothes which I know used to fit… #wickedwednesdays

    • 6th August 2014 / 7:53 pm

Hehe. I might have to heed this advice and steer well clear myself!! xx

Ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!! No #GBBO goodies for you!
I’ve been there… I only wish it was with a size 8. Team Size 14!!!!

    • 7th August 2014 / 7:36 pm

Hey Katie. Yup – it was me who ate all the pies……cakes, biscuits, sweets, chocolate, pastures etc etc!!! xxx Team size 14!!!

  16. 6th August 2014 / 1:01 pm

Oh my gosh! I’m laughed a bit (sorry!!) but I can imagine your panic. I remember getting stuck in a dress once, one of those body-con things that you could only put on over your head. No matter how hard I pulled it just wouldn’t come off…thankfully my Mum was with me and we managed to get it off between us. Mortifying!

    • 6th August 2014 / 1:21 pm

Its a total nightmare isn’t it! Perhaps I’ll let myself believe it wasn’t me and it was just the design of the item of clothing!! Hmmm – yeah right!! Haha! xx

  17. 6th August 2014 / 12:07 pm

Ohh dear! hahaha This did make me laugh! The playsuit was so pretty though x

  18. 6th August 2014 / 9:58 am

I feel bad for laughing, but i am imagining the sheer terror and the panic that im sure you are findng funny yourself now its done with! (ps i hve been in this situation myself!!!!)

    • 6th August 2014 / 10:01 am

Hooray for our optimism eh!!! I will allow you to laugh – I did – but as you say – more ‘after’ the event than during it! Oops!! I will remember not to try to fit into clothes designed for teenagers in future!! hehe!!! xxx

  19. 6th August 2014 / 8:58 am

Ah bless you, hun. This did make me laugh! Love the play suit though! Xx

    • 6th August 2014 / 9:55 am

It was pretty wasn’t it!? Unfortunately in my case – pretty small too!! Those things are a nightmare to put on and take off! I have learnt my lesson though xx

  20. 6th August 2014 / 8:44 am

I’m glad I’m not the only person that happens to! I once had to be cut out of a skirt in Monsoon. It was the first (and last!) time I’d ever been in there and mortifyingly they brought me out onto the shop floor to fetch the scissors.

    • 6th August 2014 / 9:54 am

Oh my gosh – thats hideously worse than my scenario! You poor thing – like you say – totally and utterly mortifying! Did you ever return?? xx

      • 6th August 2014 / 12:13 pm

Nope never and this happended a few years ago so my hatred is deep and long lasting.
